Avalon is one of those PS3 games that, even with the PlayStation 3 launch date so rapidly approaching, very little is actually known about. In fact, the game is at this point is so secretive that we may not even know its real title - Avalon is said to just be a codename.
What we do know about the game is that the Brighton studio of Climax Group, a game developer based in the U.K, is developing it. We also know that "Avalon" will use the Blimey 2 engine, which in itself gives us a clue as to the nature of the game. The original Blimey engine, which Blimey 2 replaces, was used to create such vehicle-based games as The Italian Job: L.A. Heist, the Moto GP games and Hot Wheels: World Race. Apart from telling us that Avalon will have nothing to do with the 80's ZX Spectrum adventure game of the same name (and, coincidentally, by another U.K. developer) - so those of you old enough and British enough to remember it, get that idea out of your head - it also tells us that the game will be vehicle-heavy. A press release from the company goes on to elaborate that Avalon will not only include land vehicles, but also those of air and sea.
It's hard to say exactly how Avalon is shaping-up, or what to expect, but we do know that the small developer has big plans, and even claims to have a "fully playable online prototype" at the Climax Group's Brighton studio. Avalon is being developed for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, so expect continuing coverage on further details as they develop.
