Gears of War

In the world of video gamers, Xbox 360 owners or not, Gears of War needs no introduction and is easily one of the most anticipated titles for Microsoft’s next-gen contender. With all the graphics, online play, and, of course, hype that the industry seems to be moving towards, GoW stands to be called this year’s Halo-killer...if Halo weren’t for the same system and by the same publisher. Taking the classic run-and-gun formula, Gears of Wars adds in variety, creating an all new style of play that has been described as stop-and-pop, and gamers have been eagerly waiting to try it out for what seems like an eternity. And now, at long last, they will finally have their chance.

Today, Microsoft announced their seminal title has shipped to stores across the country and should be on shelves soon. When it arrives, Gears of War for the Xbox 360 will be available in two versions, a standard edition for $59.99 and a special edition for $69.99. The Limited Collector’s Edition comes in a special metal box, and includes an art book and DVD featuring a making of documentary, the art of Gears of War and an MTV special on the game. No matter what version you buy though, Microsoft will be hosting a series of events to commemorate the game’s launch, including celebrity tournaments, leaderboard competitions and sweepstakes. More information on that can be found here.

As you likely know, Gears of War follows the story of Marcus Fenix as he is freed from prison to help continue the war against the Locusts Horde, an alien race that emerged from underneath the ground of the Earth-like planet Sera. The game features a five-act single player game, as well as full co-op and versus modes through split screen, system link and Xbox Live.
